Johnny Panic and The Victims Of Charity
Cats: Sessions|Johnny Panic and the Victims Of Charity at Euphonic Sound Recording Studio.
The Victims Of Charity are from the Niagara region. Our partner Freddy Gabrsek of Freddy’s Frets and Origin Audio Electronics was nice enough to hook us up with some very impressive gear to use for this session.
We used a Shure SM57 on the kick drum, that Freddy modified for the session, reducing the gain by 12 dB, smoothing the harsh mid-range character of the 57, and extending the frequency response down to 20Hz.
Freddy’s 57 mod is simply removing the transformer from the Shure57 circuit. A modded transformer-less 57 sounds fantastic on a kick drum. Very cool.
We used a pair of G7 large diaphragm tube condenser microphones on the overheads, and the Origin Audio CX7 class A fully discrete microphone preamp.
More Origin Audio gear can be found on their website at originaudioelectronics.com, and keep an eye out for Johnny Panic and The Victims Of Charity.
